Terrazzo: what floors, tiles and basins cost right now

Terrazzo is back in almost every Bali villa and cafe brief, either cast in situ as a seamless floor or laid as tiles. The price range is enormous because the word covers a Rp 20,000 grey workshop tile and a Rp 1,500,000 polished white cement floor with marble chips. Prices below are indicative, excluding freight and PPN, as of October 2026, with material and labour separated where sources allow.

Cast in situ prices from Bali and Jakarta showrooms are usually material only. Grinding, polishing and sealing is a separate labour line of roughly Rp 100,000 to 250,000 per square metre depending on the finish, and it is where most disputes happen. Ask every quote to state what is included.

What moves the price

  • Cement and aggregate. Grey cement with local stone chips is the base. White cement, imported marble chips, mother of pearl or glass can triple the material cost.
  • Thickness and finish. 2.5 to 3 cm cast is standard. Each polishing grade adds grinding passes, and a mirror finish on white terrazzo is slow, skilled work.
  • Site and access. Cast in situ needs a stable screed, power for grinders and a dry site. Small awkward rooms cost more per square metre than one open floor.
  • Who is quoting. A Bali showroom brand, a Java tile factory and a Denpasar workshop will quote the same specification at prices a long way apart.

Cast in situ or tiles

Cast in situ gives the seamless floor and the colour control, and lets you run the same mix into basins, steps and skirting. It needs a cured concrete substrate, a week or more on site for pouring, curing and grinding, and a contractor who has done it before. Cracking follows the slab, so control joints matter.

Tiles are faster, predictable and easy to replace, and the better Java factories now make 60 x 60 cm formats that read almost seamless with a tight joint. For a renovation on an existing floor, tiles are usually the sane choice.

What to put in the specification

State the cement colour, the aggregate type, size and colour, the thickness, the finish grade and the sealer. Ask for a sample panel of at least 30 x 30 cm from the actual mix, approved before the pour. Terrazzo quotes without a sample are the most common source of the wrong colour arriving on site.

Terrazzo is porous until sealed. Specify a penetrating sealer and, for cafes and wet areas, a topical sealer as well, with a maintenance interval written into the handover.

Getting three quotes

Send us the area, the mix you want or a reference image, the thickness and finish, and the site. We return three vetted quotes with material and labour separated, so the comparison is on the whole floor rather than on a headline number.

Questions buyers ask

How much does a terrazzo floor cost per square metre in Bali?+

As of October 2026, cast in situ terrazzo material runs from about Rp 300,000 per square metre for a classic grey mix to Rp 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 for polished white cement with marble chips. Grinding, polishing and sealing adds roughly Rp 100,000 to 250,000 per square metre. Designer terrazzo tiles are about Rp 300,000 to 450,000 per square metre from Java factories.

Is cast in situ terrazzo better than terrazzo tiles?+

Cast in situ gives a seamless floor and lets you match basins and steps in the same mix, but it needs a cured slab, site time and an experienced crew. Tiles are faster, predictable and easier to repair, and the best 60 x 60 cm tiles look close to seamless.

Why do terrazzo quotes vary so much?+

Because the word covers everything from a grey workshop tile to a polished white marble chip floor, and because many quotes are material only with polishing as a separate line. Always ask what is included and ask for a sample panel from the actual mix.
